Eight riders named to funded team for Copenhagen World Cup

USA Cycling announced today the eight athletes it will send to the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup event in Copenhagen, Denmark, May 9-10. The Copenhagen Supercross is the third of five UCI BMX Supercross events in 2008 and will also serve as the 17th of 18 races that factor into the USA Cycling BMX Rankings on the menandrsquo;s side and the 15th of 16 for the women. The last race will be the UCI BMX World Championships in Taiyuan, China on May 31.

Riders interested in competing at the third round of the 2008 UCI BMX Supercross World Cup event in Copenhagen, Denmark, May 9-10 can now register for the event online at www.usacycling.org/myusac. The event is open to all junior and elite men and women 17-years-old and up. The registration deadline is Friday, April 25.

Herman wins Adelaide World Cup, Martin second

The United States continued to illustrate its depth in BMX racing on Sunday when David Herman won the men's race at the second round of the 2008 UCI BMX Supercross World Cup and Arielle Martin finished second in the women's event. Herman turned in the biggest result of his career against a world-class field just two months before the U.S. Olympic Team trials, set for June 14 in Chula Vista, Calif. Despite four men in the semifinals, Herman was the only American to advance to the eight-man final. Meanwhile, in the women's race, Martin was joined by Jill Kintner and Amanda Geving in the final as her compatriots placed fifth and sixth respectively.

BMX World Challenge registration deadline extended to April 10

Attention USA Cycling BMX Challenge Class Athletes: Registration for the 2008 UCI BMX World Challenge has been extended to April 10, 2008. Qualified competitors who wish to compete must complete the registration process by then. As a reminder, all partipcants must have a USA Cycling BMX International License before registering. Also, please note all members who plan on competing must have a valid passport and Chinese visa to enter the country. Visas can be obtained through USA Cycling's preferred provider, Visa Express.

The second annual USA Cycling BMX National Championships are slated for Saturday, March 29 in Desoto, Texas. Several top hopefuls in the newest Olympic sport will compete for a national title and for points to qualify for the BMX squad that will be headed to Beijing in August. Along with the elite level stars, BMX athletes from age five and up will battle for the stars-and-stripes jersey in both the challenge and cruiser classes as well as the chance to qualify for the team that will represent the United States at the 2008 BMX World Challenge in Taiyuan, China.

Georgia NBL State Qualifier - River City BMX

The first round of the 2008 Georgia NBL State Qualifiers is this weekend at River City BMX in Columbus Georgia. The track can be found at 1655 Elvan Avenue, Columbus GA (Click for Google Maps Directions). Directions: from I-185, take exit 1B, Victory Drive. Go approximately 3 miles and look for the Plaza motel and turn left on to Elvan Ave. The track will be on the right.

This will also be the first round of the local NBL PRO/AM race of 2008.

Pro-am entry fee is $10 per rider. Prizes and hole shot awards to be announced day of event.

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS:
9 am - 11 am Kovachi Wheels Clinic Cost $25 per rider.
12 pm - 2pm Practice and Registration.
2:30pm State meeting and Presidents Cup presentations.
3:00pm State Qualifier and Pro-Am Racing starts.

Drop by PIT row as riders from Clayborn, MCS, Kovachi, Felt, Evolution, Xtraskin, Team Clayborn/Motofiller, Trackstars, TwentyH.com and others will be in attendance.

Cisar takes bronze at Madrid World Cup to lead American BMX'ers

The first round of the 2008 UCI BMX Supercross World Cup took place on Saturday as Steven Cisar placed third to lead all U.S. competitors. In a main that featured four Americans andndash; Cisar, Tyler Brown, Donny Robinson and Kyle Bennett andndash; Cisar was the only one to earn a spot on the podium. Brown finished fourth while Robinson and Bennett finished fifth and sixth respectively. Latvia's Arturs Matisons took the win ahead of silver medalist Marc Willers (NZL).
